Russel, AlicePot Of Gold [Soul, Funk, R'n'B]RELEASE: 08.05.2009LABEL: Differ-antVERTRIEB: Groove AttackWEBSITE: www.alicerussell.com“Alice Russell has one of the great soul voices of today.” – The Telegraph
Alice’s first album, “My Favourite Letters”, was released on Brighton based label Tru Thoughts, and was met with critical and commercial acclaim. Since then she has gone on to release two more albums on Tru Thoughts, not to mention numerous collaborations with artists all over the world, from Mr Scruff and Fat Freddy’s Drop to her former labelmates The Bamboos, Quantic and TM Juke, just ot name a few. Long time partner-in-crime TM Juke also took on the production of “Pot Of Gold”. And she is taking the US by storm. Three transatlantic tours over the past twelve months and a promo deal with Starbucks have landed her a stateside record deal with Six Degrees Records and a fast growing North American fanbase. Blessed with a lavishly soulful voice, Alice Russell’s sound is modern, but firmly rooted in the past. Surpassing the likes of Duffy and Adele’s impersonations of the soul greats, Alice’s records are extremely refreshing. Likewise, her live performances are truly unique, capable of captivating an audience and holding its attention throughout, expertly tugging at individual heartstrings. Her smouldering blues-inflected lament is constantly evolving in her new solo material, thanks to collaborations with producers (including Quantic, Nostalgia 77, Bah Samba and Kushti), which have encompassed everything from funk to soul, gospel to jazz, and to hip hop and beyond. “Pot Of Gold” is a rare, bold and adventurous undertaking for Alice, as this is the first release on her own Little Poppet label, licensed to French label Differ-ant for continental Europe. Clearly, artistic control is paramount for this performer, and it serves only to fill this “Pot Of Gold” with deeper intrigue, wit and style. Alice’s sound has been distilled, encompassing live strings, horns and piano to compliment the intimate and uplifting shift in her new material. Tracklisting<7b>
