MogwaiThe Hawk Is Howling [Rock / Alternative]RELEASE: 19.09.2008LABEL: Wall Of Sound/PiasVERTRIEB: Rough TradeWEBSITE: www.mogwai.co.ukDu musst das hier nicht lesen. Es ist völlig überflüssig. Es gibt keine Texte auf „The Hawk Is Howling“. Sämtliche Durchschlagskraft, die Strukturen und die verschiedenen Stimmungen – alles kommt aus den Instrumenten. Mogwai malen Klangbilder, Worte sind überflüssig. Selbst wenn die Gruppe aus Glasgow wie in der Vergangenheit ein paar Lyrics auf ihren letzten Werken zwischen die Instrumental-Stücke schob, so blieben sie doch vernuschelt, nicht zu identifizieren. In the band’s illustrious 12 year career, Mogwai have released 5 albums, recorded various soundtracks and, from their humble beginnings in Glasgow, been transported onto the international stage becoming one of the UK’s most vital and respected of bands. Mogwai’s motivation and unwavering self-belief has meant the band have not stopped evolving, growing and learning - 2006 saw the band release their biggest album yet in the guise of ‘Mr Beast’ - marking a return to the bone-crushing volume and intensity of earlier albums - recorded the fantastically crafted soundtrack to ‘Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait’ and played amongst others, a triumphant sold out shows at the Royal Albert Hall and Somerset House. 'The Scots post-rockers return with a storming album that even Alan McGeee has been likening to My Bloody Valentine's 1991 classic 'Loveless'. High praise indeed.' NME ‘The effect is like a delicious quicks and, each crashing drumbeat and furious chord dragging you deeper into Mogwai’s heavy, all encompassing majesty.’ 5/5 The Guardian live review ‘Sometimes it's easy to forget just how good a band Mogwai are. Tastemakers might grumble that the Glaswegians' free-form quiet-loud dynamic belongs to the last century, but live their music sounds timeless and transcendent. Their fifth album is a thrillingly ambitious record that add's to the mix Neo-Classical piano to computerized electronica, from Mozart to the Mac. On this form Mogwai should fear no-one' 4/5 THE TIMES Live Review ‘It’s hard to think of another band who make guitar music sound so simultaneously vsiceral, genre-stretching and eloquest. No doubt about it, then: Mogwai are Magnificent.’ 4/4 THE INDEPENDENT live review (Quelle: Wall of Sound) FORMAT: CD
