The acquaintance is called Mikkel Schack Band, and with their debut-cd, they introduce the world for nothing less than a new genre: Darkpop! The genre is founded by the band themselves, and covers a heavy bass – and drumbased foundation, strong riffs and melodic chorus’. The characteristic sound enters in contract with the mood and the highly personal yet universal valid lyrics that is delivered with an immediate melancholy.

Everything from the well known dark grey sides of life to the pitch-black hole deals with topics as having it out with religion and the lower middle class society, strong scepticism against the material world and a total giving up on the happy life as being an option.

”From Time To Time (I Lose My Mind)”, which is a good guess on a radiohit, contains the dark universe and the grand melody of darkpop, and just as ”As Good As It Gets” it is a real mindpleaser. ”Where Are We Heading?” offers a powerful vocal á la David Coverdale, while other tunes are delivered with a quiet, plain and honest sadness, which in particular can be heard in the acoustic first-take in the finale ”Never Talk To Strangers”.

The album offers challenging interplay both in each track and on the album as a whole, but no matter if the songs have arena-quality or intimate club-mood, the songs are unmistakably from Mikkel Schack Band.

Despite the diversity of the songs, they are all carried by the band’s solid technical background from the academy of music and spiced with producer Jacob Hansen’s (Volbeat, Powderhog, m.fl) flair for decoding the shades of the style and mood of darkpop, the result has become an integrated album with both nerve and perseverance.
