Lalah a.k.a. Doerte Benzner is a singer, composer, drummer and on good days a poetess. She has a diploma in photography. In her Hamburg based studio Raffinade she produces her songs which she wrote in hidden away holiday homes with firesides in Denmark. She has no talent for cooking and loves films like "Fargo". In the summer she swims and enjoys hammocking.
Her new album will be released this February. "Every song has its own character and so I developed the production around it." Lalah says. Among her songs, also produced by herself, you will find songs accompanied live by Johnny Liebling (Universal Jazz). The record was co-produced by Chris v. Rautenkranz (Blumfeld, Tocotronic, Die Sterne), Nils Kacirek (plexiq, Station 17), JF Sebastian (Black Cherries) and Sarah Andresen (Soundgarden). Lalah’s new album demonstrates her very own way of songwriting. Her lyrics are self-contained and unheard. She breathes her stories and brings together minimalistic old-school electro sound with acoustic instruments. She combines everyday item-percussion and her own sampled sounds with her melancholic, nonchalant, jazz-coloured voice. Everything is based upon big pop-melodies, pulsing beats and “old-new” stories that take you on a ride through one of those nights when "temperature of breath and air-flow are almost the same" (Lalah: "Sommernacht"). Lalah awakens memories and just smells good.
