Drawing from the likes of Mclusky and The Melvins for inspiration, Dirty Versions - the band's second full-length - is a compact, immediate record – the album was recorded as live in just 2 days! - and builds on the quartet’s post-Dischord sonic template that has wowed audiences and critics alike in their native US.
We Versus the Shark started in 2003, originally bonding over a mutual love of DC-based staples such as the Dismemberment Plan, Q and Not U, and Fugazi. The full-length debut Ruin Everything! followed in 2005 on Hello Sir! Records, first attracting our attention and earning praise such as the following from Pitchfork: “Ruin Everything! is a flurry of sparkling detail and fragmentary hooks that somehow accrue into cohesive songs."
Shark's guitar patterns are fraught with blunt edges and sharp corners; Dirty Versions is disjointed math-infused disco-punk at it’s best – freak riffs that you can’t resist dancing to.
