Following the widespread critical acclaim of Century’s 2006 album “Faith And Failure” on Tribunal Records and the recent signing of the band to Prosthetic Records, the impending “Black Ocean” album further pushes Century’s vast, epic interpretation of dark, metallic hardcore.
Based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Century have developed since their inception in 2005 through a passionate DIY work ethic which saw frontman Carson Slovak record, produce and mix the new album at his own studio. Over two years in the making, Black Ocean is both intriguing and unsettling as an album. The music is devastatingly heavy and raw yet does not pull from any of the ephemeral trends suffocating the metal and hardcore scene as of late.
The juxtaposition of the album’s dark, horrific concept to the epic and ethereal universe of sonic texture results in an effort that will no doubt secure Century’s foothold in the heavy music community. This is cutting edge modern hardcore with metal leanings, points of reference being Cave In, Converge, Burst and other such luminaries.
