Noise Around Me [Pop]
| || |
Picked as ’Song of the Week’ and with lots of airplay on the biggest radio station in Denmark, the Copenhagen electropop-trio Tiger Baby proved that you can make pop with an edge without being banished to the alternative hit lists. Now, about two years after the release of the debut, ‘Lost in You’, the group is ready with its second album, ‘Noise Around Me’.
On the new album, Tiger Baby makes the step from the Fall-withering forest into the pulsating night club. Synthesizers dominate the sound to a higher extend, while the simple pop-melody is still in focus. The combination of electronic beats and melodic synth- and guitar-arrangements create a fine contrast to Pernille Pang’s, at once, fragile and insisting vocals and bittersweet lyrics. The result is a string of beautiful, danceable songs, which, above all, pursue the stylistic expression of pop, but, at the same time, moves around in a varied musical landscape and find a resting place somewhere between eurodance and shoegaze. All songs on ‘Noise Around Me’ are written, recorded and produced by the group itself in its own studio on Islands Brygge in Copenhagen.
Since the release of the debut album, Tiger Baby has played at the yearly reoccurring CMJ-festival in New York; released the Christmas single ‘This Christmas’ on the legendary, Danish label Cloudland Records; appeared on the soundtrack of the MTV-nominated, Indonesian film ‘Catatan Akhir Sekolah’ and, along with other Danish bands, contributed to the Depeche Mode tribute-album ‘DMDK’, which was released February 27th in Denmark by the record company Bonnier Amigo.
Tiger Baby is Benjamin Stubbe Teglbjærg (keyboards, guitar and programming), Nikolaj Tarp Gregersen (keyboards, guitar and programming) and Pernille Pang (lyrics and vocals).
