K.C. McKanzie ist eine Songwriterin, wie es sie selten gibt. Fröhliche Melancholie, intensive Leichtigkeit - scheinbar unvereinbare Gegensätze verbindet K.C. McKanzie in ihrer Musik. Sie spielt ihren ganz eigenen Stil aus Americana und Folk. Bittersüße Old-Time-Romantik paart sich mit einem zeitgemäßen Gefühl für erdige Rhythmen. Abtauchen in die Stille, ungeschönte pure Sehnsucht, unheilvolle Melancholie... K.C. McKanzie hat einen Sinn für das Makabre, das Anstößige und Außergewöhnliche. Kein Held ihrer Songs kommt ohne dunkle Geheimnisse aus, kein Akkord, der sich nicht in leichte Dissonanzen ziehen ließe. Es geht hart aber ehrlich zu in K.C.s Kompositionen. Sehnsüchtig-folkig schwebt ihre klare, sanfte Stimme über der Musik, zeigt den Weg durch die musikalischen Landschaften, die K.C. (Gitarre, Gesang) mit ihrem Partner Joe "Budi" Budinsky (Kontrabass, Banjo) kreiert. Dabei verzichten die beiden auf Schönmalerei, reduzieren die Songs auf das Wesentliche: Rhythmus, Melodie, Story. Die Presse ordnet K.C. unter "Neo-Traditional", tief verwurzelt in Folk, "Roots-Music" ein, betont zugleich, daß es Musik ist, die sich von der Masse abhebt. K.C. selbst sieht sich irgendwo zwischen englischem Folk der 60er und 70er und dem Americana / Acoustic-Sound der Neuzeit. Namen wie Sandy Denny, Joni Mitchell und Gillian Welch kommen einem in den Sinn, wenn K.C. spielt. Live fesselt das Duo auf charmante Art mit trockenem Humor und einem sichtlichen Spaß an der Musik. K.C. macht ihren Folk-Heroen alle Ehre, wenn sie auf der Bühne den ewiglichen Nagel des John Henry ins spröde Holz treibt. Diving into silence, pure unprettified longing, baneful and melancholy, K.C. McKanzie has an appreciation for the macabre, the offensive and the unusual. None of the heroes of her songs is without a secret; not a single chord that couldn't be bent into soft dissonances. It's a hard but honest tone in K.C. McKanzie's compositions. Her soft and clear voice floats wistful-folky on top of the music, and shows the way through the musical landscapes that K.C. McKanzie (banjo, guitar, vocals,) creates with her partner Joe "Budi" Budinsky (bass, banjo). They play without palliation - reducing their songs to the essential substance of rhythm, melody and story. The Press places K.C. McKanzie as "Neo-Traditional", deeply rooted in Folk and Roots-Music while emphasizing that it is music that stands out from the masses. K.C. McKanzie places herself somewhere between the English Folk of the 60s and 70s and the Americana acoustic sound of today. Listening to K.C.
